How to test a Pix QR code and WhatsApp link before sharing

Generation is only the first step: validate content, destination, size and the real user journey before accepting traffic or payments.

QR codes and links reduce typing but hide part of the destination until opening. A wrong character in a key, number or amount can turn a campaign into support work.

Use test data, make a low-value transaction when needed, and test in the same setting as the audience: another phone, printed material, bio or ad.

Explain destination

Validate in the real app and device before printing, advertising or accepting payments.

Check content before appearance

For Pix, scan with a banking app and stop at confirmation. Verify recipient name, institution, amount and description. The Central Bank defines initiation standards, but the payment provider’s confirmation screen remains essential.

For WhatsApp, include country code and digits only. Open the link privately or on another phone to confirm the conversation and prefilled text. Do not put sensitive information in the URL message.

Test size, contrast and quiet zone

A QR code needs contrast and a clear margin. Large logos, texture, tiny print or low resolution make scanning harder. Test the final artwork, not only the PNG before layout.

Scan with at least two devices and from a realistic distance. For print, simulate lighting and paper; for screens, test brightness, zoom and responsive layout.

Explain what will happen

The call to action should say whether it opens a chat, prepares a payment or visits a site. Provide a text alternative such as a number, key or domain for accessibility and camera failure.

Never pressure users to ignore payment confirmation. For outreach, use a short opening message they can edit before sending.

Review after publishing

Links can fail when numbers, campaigns or destinations change. Keep the source file, record placements and repeat the test after changes.

For long-lived printed QR codes, prefer a destination you control. Regenerate Pix codes when payment details change and retire old versions.

Final checklist

  • Scan the QR in the correct app.
  • Verify recipient, amount, number and message.
  • Test final artwork on two phones.
  • Keep a clear margin and contrast.
  • Provide a text alternative.
